The 2010 Ford Fusion Rocks
Ever since the Taurus took a nose dive a few years ago, Ford has been looking for a suitable replacement to challenge the Accord and Camry in the mid-sized car segment.Since its first introduction in 2006, Ford has made many modifications to the Fusion including the new Hybrid power plant that the public have really been taking notice to.The 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.In comparison to competitors, the Ford Fusion Hybrid gets some of the best in-town gas mileage. The Environemetal Protection Agency gives the Fusion a rating of 41 Miles Per Gallon which is much better than the Toyota Camry, and even better than the fuel efficient Civic Hybrid; all this from a medium sized hybrid car.Without the gas engine, the Fusion can drive up to 47 MPH on just the electric motor alone. It has been written about and this system has been used by many to get better MPG than the EPA says are possible.
Technology in the Fusion allows drivers to learn which style of driving is best for maximizing fuel economy.Ford has made a smart feature built into the gauge cluster called the Smart Gauge. There are two displays on each side of the gauge cluster that show various hybrid info. The first monitor will indicate just how much gas is left and also how much energy is left in the battery pack. The 2nd display shows the vehicle tachometer and also tells which mode the Fusion is running in; full electric or hybrid. The 3rd monitor shows motor and batter power. Finally, the last screen shows data in power to the wheels and additional power consumption. All data screens show fuel economy, fuel consumption history, an odometer, trip data, and coolant temperatures.Real time Mile Per Gallon information lets the driver know which driving style gains best fuel economy.
The navigation system also houses the Hybrid Energy Flow Display. This display will track the 5 modes of the Fusion’s Hybrid Powertrain which are the; electric drive, hybrid drive, electric boost, idle charging, and regenerative breaking.
Seperating itself from the hybrid pack, the Fusion has seats made from reclaimed fabric.Toyota and Honda have been selling thousands of hybrids per year unchallanged, better late than never with Ford.
