You realize that gas prices are taking a huge chunk out of your paycheck and that a more economical form of transportation is needed, but when someone mentions the word moped, it just makes you cringe. Take heart, there has been some major retooling and tweaking done that has resulted in the motor scooter (no pedals included). Where the moped may have been able to reach around 25 mph, these powered scooters are capable of approximately 40 miles per hour, quite a bit more than their predecessors.

When looking at the different gas and electric scooters at your local motor scooters dealers, to see what features are available to you that will also fill your needs, be sure that you have some type of price range in mind as well, which you can check out online by comparing several models at one time. Your price range may be limited depending on exactly what you will be using the gas or electric scooter for. It is a good idea to have several questions answered before you start.

For example, how often do you plan on using a motor scooter and approximately how many miles will you be traveling. Are you going to use it for business or pleasure and what type of terrain will the scooter have to cross every day? Pavement, rock, road? Will there be any inclines in your commute and how important is speed in your travel? Are you going to need room for packages or another person? And naturally, your body type and size is a factor in your decision.

Asking yourself these types of questions can help to filter your choices so that you will not have to waste time checking out some that will obviously not work for you. There are so many different models of powered scooters to choose from, such as the popular gas motor scooters and electric motor scooters, plus the availability of a 4 or 3 wheel electric scooter. As well, for the mobility impaired, there are also wheelchairs electric scooters available.

If you think that you will be traveling long distances, up inclines, with passengers or larger packages and for business they you may want to go for high quality, as you will need it to be reliable and durable for traveling needs. This includes looking for models with larger foot platforms, comfortable handle bars and more advanced motors. They have also recently begun to make a motor scooter specifically designed for off-road travel. The larger electric motors allow for more power and speed, and battery wattage usually starts around 100 and may go to over 1,000, with mileage per hour starting at 8 up to as much as 20, even going uphill.
