Donate Your Car To Charity

Do you have an extra vehicle you no longer need? It may be one that has a ton of miles on it or that needs some work. While it may just be in your way you can do something with it to help others. Why not donate your car to those that need it? You will be offering them a chance to do so much more than what they are limited to right now.

Some common non profit organizations that continually are looking for vehicle donations include human services, Red Cross, United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and Special Olympics. Many of them will come to pick up the vehicle from you as well. Even if the vehicle you are donating isn’t in perfect shape they will take it. They often have partnered up with area mechanics that do the repairs at a very low cost for them.

You will feel great about donating your car to such organizations. Knowing you are responsible for helping someone gain the transportation they need is a wonderful experience. Sure, you could trade that vehicle in or sell it for a low dollar amount but you won’t get the same level of satisfaction from doing so.

It is often possible to take a deduction on your taxes when you donate your car too. That is a great perk that many people don’t realize. As a result of such deductions you will be able to reduce the amount of income tax you are responsible to pay. If you are going to qualify for a refund, it can end up being more than you anticipated due to such deductions.

The maximum amount you can deduct on your taxes when you donate your car can be complicated though. Make sure you understand the rules and how they apply. You don’t want to get into trouble for taking more than you should. Make sure you obtain a receipt of the donation too in case you are ever audited.

Too many people out there don’t have access to any transportation at all. Those that can access it though may be limited. For example it can be hard to take your kids to daycare on the train, get to work on time, and then get them picked up. It can also be very expensive which means financially such households continue to struggle. When you donate your car though they can be helped to becoming self sufficient.
