The beginning days of the teardrop camper

Originally teardrop campers were just small camper trailers holding just the basics you would need for a short trips. These trailers were first made by Louis Rogers for his honeymoon in the 1930s. They quickly became popular since they were easy to pull for those with smaller vehicles. While the teardrop camping trailer has seen many changes through the years the streamlined build has remained the same. These lightweight camper trailers are now built better than they ever have been. The original purpose of the teardrop camper as to allow two people to sleep inside. One the outside the camper has a raise up deck lid which is the perfect storage area for the food, icebox, stove, and kitchen utensils.
 
Immediately outside the entry door there was a private dressing area. Over time a pressurized water tank allowed for running water in the kitchenette. Over time room was made for an interior dressing area as well as a small storage closet and chemical toilet. The most noticeable change to the teardrop camper was the replacement of the exterior metal shell with fiberglass. There are several different styles of teardrop campers these days.
 
There are even new models designed for off road use. There are also many different variations of body length, width, and size. You will also have many different options when it comes to the design of your sleeping space and kitchenette space of your teardrop camper. The newest models of teardrop camper will have easier to use entry doors and sliding windows with screens for improved ventilation.
 
Many of the more well appointed models will also feature advanced stereo systems, lights in the rear kitchenette and a lock down cover for your stove. There are even some teardrop campers which feature an eating table in the kitchen and bunk beds.
