NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series won’t hit Michigan International Speedway until June but a quartet of their top driver’s were on the track Wednesday. Jeff Gordon, Brad Kesolowski, Juan Pablo Montoya and this year’s Daytona 500 champ Matt Kenseth, took part in tire testing for Goodyear. It was the first time any of them had driven MIS since it was repaved last fall. While they weren’t necessarily trying to set a new track record, unofficially they did. All of them. The drivers tweeting they topped out around 215 to 216 miles per hour. “I’m not sure I want to know I’m going that fast,” said Gordon. “I am not a big fan of repaves, so the fact that I am talking positive about it and still enjoying the racetrack as much as I always have, I think that is a sign where I rank it. I rank it very high.” Former IndyCar driver Montoya, agreed with Gordon. “This place is fast. I mean fast, fast,” said Montoya. “For a car like this, it is really, really quick. It is a lot of fun. I think as the track links up I think it is going to bring great racing. That is pretty good.” The green flag drops on the first Sprint Cup Series race at MIS on June 17.
